Maestro is a Spanish artist who divides his time between the eastern coast of Spain and the western coast of the United States. Born and raised in Spain, he studied and trained as an architect at the Polytechnic University of Valencia before joining the architecture honors program at the University of Pennsylvania. From there, Maestro spent several years developing a professional practice as an architect and designer, working as a creative for firms such as the Bjarke Ingels Group before beginning his artistic career.

Maestro draws inspiration from both the simple elegance of European design and the dimensional complexity of the architectural process. As a recent immigrant to the United States, he is also fascinated by the contagious nature of American pop culture—especially those enduring icons that have spilled over into the global public consciousness.

Maestro’s work explores the various ways in which highly recognizable icons are accessed and processed through contemporary media and technology. In particular, he is drawn to moments when digital technology frustrates or otherwise resists the appetite of consumer culture, as in his pixelated “loading” series—which depicts iconic or historic images that will never fully load and, therefore, can never be fully absorbed by the viewer. Maestro examines these images through a hyper-real lens, inviting the viewer’s close scrutiny while playing with perspective. His style is deliberate and sculptural, grounded in the precise and minimalistic cohesion of black ink on white paper.

Maestro’s most recent work includes experimentation with iconic color palettes, alongside 3D models, digital renderings, and sculptural works derived from his pixelated pieces. Through these new works, Maestro unifies his dynamic architectural and artistic practices.
