Galloping

Muybridge's 1887 Animal Locomotion, as seen by MAESTRO. These are the first eight frames of the historic animation, drawn through my signature pixelated lens as part of my ongoing LOADING series. Though the drawings before you in the gallery stand on their own, this page represents an ongoing digital exploration of the animation. I arrest it, transform selected frames into sculpture, then set its pixelated abstractions into motion once more. As I work, I find myself questioning: what is lost and what is gained through the innumerable transformations, deaths, and rebirths that technology makes possible?
